Just about everyone has heard of prison inmates getting tattoos. Because of the prevalence of this jailhouse pastime, many people wonder how they are able to get the materials to make homemade tattoo guns as we can see the old technique in Hindu tattoo. Making a tattoo gun is incredibly easy. You could make one with things that you have lying around your own home. If it were not so easy to make you would not see so many people in prison getting tattoos. There is a few different methods that you can make one by depending on which tools you have available to you. But here are some basic items that you probably have around the home that you can use.

MATERIALS

Toothbrush Ballpoint pen Guitar string approximately Pencil eraser Electrical tape Electric motor Power supply

The toothbrush will be the frame to hold everything. The pen housing will be used to hold the ink tube. Guitar string for a needle (paperclip or any other long thin piece of metal will work). Any tape will do, I prefer electrical. Get your motor from an electric toothbrush or rotary tool or any other small electrical device. For a power supply, I prefer batteries but a cell phone charger or any other small power unit will work.

Directions

Cut the bristles off the toothbrush. You can do this with a knife or scissors. Take the ink pen apart removing all components. File the tip of the pin so the ballpoint comes out. There should be a hole just big enough for the needle to pass through. Heat up the toothbrush with your lighter so that you can bend it into an L-shaped. Make sure you hold the toothbrush in place until the plastic cools and hardens again. This is the frame of your tattoo gun.

Cut approximately 1 inch off the top of the tube that was removed from the pen.

Keep the tube clean or you can have a mess. Insert the needle into the pen. It should look like a regular ink pen only about half as long. Take your motor and put the end of an eraser from a pencil as close to the center of the pin on the motor as you can. Tape the motor to your toothbrush where you curved it. Put the guitar string through the bottom of the pen with the metal ballpoint at the bottom. At the top of the string bend it 90° and push it into the eraser. Place it off-centered near the edge of the eraser. Take your power adapter or batteries with some copper wire and connect the wires to the motor and tape it in place.

Be careful, unless you took the extra step of adding a power switch once you plug it in or connect the batteries to the power supply it will turn on. Now, you should have a functioning homemade tattoo gun. Remember, just because you have a homemade tattoo gun does not mean you should give yourself or anyone else a tattoo without proper training. You risk infection, as well as a very real chance of giving someone a very bad tattoo.
